Sports Premium Grant

What is the sports premium?

The Government is providing funding of £150 million to provide new, substantial primary school sport funding. Starting from September 2013, and lasting until at least 2016, ring-fenced funding – only to be spent on sport – will go directly to schools who will decide what is best for their children’s sport needs. This funding is being jointly provided by the Departments for Education, Health and Culture, Media and Sport. The sport funding can only be spent on sport and PE provision in schools.

Four Dwellings Primary Academy provides a wide variety of physical activities for pupils, both during the school day and on an extracurricular basis. The PE curriculum focuses on pupils enjoying active, healthy lifestyle, responding positively to challenges and developing self-confidence and physical capabilities. Pupils learn about their changing bodies and the importance of nutrition and rest for a healthy, balanced lifestyle. Through sport and other physical activities, they learn to increase their body control, coordination and dexterity. Pupils also learn about their responsibilities both as individuals and members of teams. They learn to cooperate and to compete fairly.

Our Sports Premium Grant is currently £9,610 per annum. We have spent this on a specialist sports coach, Richard Steadman, who comes and delivers PE lessons, lunchtime clubs and after school clubs. Staff attend some of the PE lessons to gain professional development, whilst in other lessons Richard takes the class without the class teacher.
