Local Community

At Four Dwellings, we take our involvement with our local community very seriously! We make sure that our children not only regularly visit local places of interest, but we also invite members of the local community into school whenever possible.

Below are some of the experiences within the community that our pupils have recently participated in:

  • Strong links with Four Dwellings Academy (Secondary School)

  • Our choir singing locally for Trident Reach (a local charitable organisation) and at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital

  • Woodgate Valley visits including a project based around improving the local environment

  • The local Police visit the children

  • The Fire brigade are invited in

  • Fayres and open days

  • Members of the local community are invited in to talk to the children about their jobs or experiences

  • Links with the local church, St Boniface including, clubs run by their team, visits to the church, carol services etc

  • Visits to the local library

Wider Community

Being on the doorstep on one of the nation's largest cities, we feel that it is important to ensure that we take advantage of what Birmingham has to offer. We therefore regularly take pupils to the city centre to visit various places of interest and have been developing links with the Birmingham Symphony Orchestra. This helps pupils to begin to have an understanding of the contrast between the city centre and where they live, but also to develop a sense of belonging to a wider community.

We also make it our duty to ensure that during their time at Four Dwellings, pupils experience the wider national community, with trips to various places throughout our country including London.

Global Community

It is fundamental that pupils at our school begin to develop their knowledge of other countries and to begin to understand their place within the wider world. We use a variety of resources and creative techniques to try to bring other parts of the world into our classroom, be it the rainforest in Brazil, the desert in Africa or the colder climate in the Arctic.

We also feel that it is important for the older members of our school community to have opportunities to discuss what is going on in the world today with regards to news reports etc.

We hope to begin to develop some links with schools in other countries, so if you would like to organise a partnership scheme with us, please don’t hesitate to contact us on 0121 464 3351 to discuss it further.
